When we arrived at the port of Dover town We left the ferry on the wrong side of the road Deep in our hearts we were northwardbound But on our minds we were carrying a load But when we hit the road I held her hand in mine And our hearts got closer to the stars above It's been too long since we have felt the ocean It's been too long that we were working on our dream It's been too long we felt these strong emotions But now we're on our way on the road to Aberdeen We are on our way on the road to Aberdeen We said Hello to a place named Shiregreen That's a quarter of Sheffield so high upon a hill I played some songs in an old pub in Shiregreen And I saw my name written on Sheffield Steel And when we hit the road I held her hand in mine And our hearts got closer to the stars above It's been too long since we have felt the ocean … Heading north we came to Old Durham town That's the name of a song that I will always love We took a walk through the cobbled streets of Durham Town And there I felt we have to fight for our love But when we hit the road I held her hand in mine And our hearts got closer to the stars above It's been too long since we have felt the ocean ...

Wherever the sun goes behind the horizon Wherever the wind blows after the storm Wherever the river flows after reaching the ocean I will be there for you from here ‘til dawn When I was a young man I had so many questions Are we bound to wonder the whole life long Sometimes it's depressing all this endless talking About what is right and what is wrong Need something to hold on to in times of trouble A taillight to follow on a gloomy road I was asking my father about the ways of fortune Here’s what he told me many years ago Wherever the sun goes behind the horizon ... So many years later I'm not wiser but older Still got rivers to cross, still got cliffs to climb And as we were travelling through the Scottish Highlands My grown up children they were on my mind They got the same questions that havn't been answered Looking for a lighthouse on the stormy sea Following River Dee down to the Northern Sea The words of my father reappeared to me Wherever the sun goes behind the horizon ...

The rain … it's coming in from the sea And it’s drizzling on our old motor home The rain … I can't find no sleep So I listen to that old ocean song … the rain. Who are we to believe that the earthbound song it was written about us It is so clear to see that the earth will turn on without us The wind … kicking up from the west and it's rolling along the cold northern shore The wind … I can't get no rest 'cause it's blowing on for evermore … the wind Who are we to believe that the earthbound song it was written about us It is so clear to see that the earth will turn on without us Now the sun … there's a shimmer on the horizon And the rain it is gone The sun … there's a glimmer and it lies on Peaceful waters ... all over Loch Broom Who are we to believe that the earthbound song it was written about us It is so clear to see that the earth will turn on without us

There's an old house not too far from my home It's a half timbered one, made of wood and clay and stone And behind the house there's a place of grace and green This is the garden, the garden of my dreams When I'm sitting there 'til the sun is going down And I'm watching the birds and listen to their sound I'm enjoying the smell of lavender and rosemary Here in the garden, the garden of my dreams This is one of the places where lovers used to go Here I'm planting my dreams, here I watch them grow This is one of the places where time is standing still Here I'm planting my dreams, and I hope I always will When I was a child we used to play hide and seek Was hiding in the garden, hoped they'd never find me I got my first kiss underneath the runner beans Here in the garden, the garden of my dreams This is one of the places where lovers used to go ... There's an old house not too far from my home It's a half timbered one, made of wood and clay and stone And behind the house there's a place of grace and green This is the garden, the garden of my dreams This is the garden, the garden of my dreams

I remember my old roller skates though it’s a long time ago I think I got them in 1963 All the kids were riding down that forbidden graveyard road The one who got told off was mostly me Our knees were bloody but our hearts were brave, after school we were riding until dawn I’m dreaming of my old roller skates, though they’re gone, gone, gone And again I got that feeling on my mind Oh how I wish I could ride them one more time I remember my old motor bike though it’s many years ago I bought it second hand in 73 Already on my first ride I was tumbling on the road I was trembling with fear but feeling free First of all I was drilling through the exhaust box so it could go 70 miles and more I’m dreaming of my old motor bike, though it’s gone, gone, gone And again I got that feeling on my mind Oh how I wish I could ride it one more time It’s not the distance, nor the destination but it’s the ride And I never will forget my first Volkswagon bus When I bought it, it was almost a wreck But nevertheless it brought me to the atlantic coast No seat belts but big speakers in the back It was rolling on and on til the end of the seventies until relentless police tore us apart I am dreaming of my Volkswagon bus, though it’s gone, gone, gone And again I got that feeling on my mind Oh how I wish I could ride it one more time But most of all I remember our American RV We bought it in LA some years ago It brought us through the desert, over the mountain, to the sea Through the blazing heat and the ice cold snow After six month we resold it in old Tucson town, there were tears in the eyes of you and me Over and over I’m dreaming of our American RV And again I got that feeling on my mind Oh how I wish I could ride it one more time

The morning is cold, the sky it is grey Christmas is over since yesterday I look out of the window into an unfriendly world I’m missing my dream, I’m missing my girl it feels like I loose, feels like I loose, feels like I loose myself I make me a coffee but I pour it away Lie down on my sofa, for half of the day Headache and heartache, tremble and tears Lost in myself, lost in my fears it feels like I loose, feels like I loose, feels like I loose myself These are the days I don’t trust in myself These are the days I wanna be somewhere else These are the days I really hate like hell These are the days I don’t trust in myself These are the days I wanna be someone else These are the days I really hate like hell But the fog it is lifting, I’m stepping outside I’m pumping my bike up to go for a ride I see lots of people with their Christmassy smiles I see some white herons, they are guests for a while I don’t wanna loose, I don’t wanna loose, I don’t wanna loose myself I’m watching the sundown, it’s time to ride home My fingers are cold, chilled to the bone I catch sight of our house, see warm friendly lights My lady is home and we got tonight I don’t need this blues, don’t need this blues, don’t need this blues no more These were the days of headache and heartache these were the days of tremble and tears These were the days of headache and heartache these were the days of tremble and tear But gone are the days …..

I quit my job more than two years ago I lost some money, I lost some friends I lost some pleasures that I used to know But does it really matter in the end? Cause I still got sunshine, and I still feel rain I'm still not hungry when all the money's gone I still hear laughter and I still feel pain And I still got you, still got my song I still got the day, still feel the night Still got a conscience, so deep and strong Try to find my way, try to do what's right And I still got you, still got my song Quit my job more than two years ago I lost some money, lost some friends Lost some pleasures that I used to know But does it really matter in the end? Does it really matter in the end? Hey does it really matter in the end?

Can you tell me, my friend, what are they fighting for All these faceless armies of duty and despair All the nameless soldiers in an endless war Let's be honest my friend, do you really care? Mhmhm tell me what are you fighting for Mhmhm believe me I'm not fighting in any war Can you tell me, my friend, what are they dying for They are running for their lives from the eagle and the bear Leaving homeless children, many a million and more Let's be honest my friend, do you really care? Mhmhm tell me what are you fighting for Mhmhm believe me I'm not fighting in any war Can you tell me, my Lord, what are they living for Out there in a world of darkness and despair Is there any masterplan behind your golden door Let's be honest my Lord, do you really care? Mhmhm tell me what are you fighting for Mhmhm believe me I'm not fighting in any war

I love to watch the wild geese heading south In my mind I’m flying by their side I feel the wind when I’m breathing in and out Closer to the stars and their guiding light I love to hear them crying in the night And I feel the longing in their sound Nothing on this earth will ever stop their flight Year after year the geese are southward bound After a while the flock of geese is gone disappearing in the shadows of the night For a little while I’m feeling quite alone What are we without a guiding light Guiding light, guiding light Guiding light, guiding light We are sitting on a dead old willow tree Peering at the ocean in the last day light Some tired geese are resting on the sea What would I be without you by my side I love to watch those wild geese heading south In my mind I’m flying by their side I feel the wind when I’m breathing in and out Closer to the stars and their guiding light Guiding light, guiding light ...

This one goes out to those who are gone To those I have loved and I've lost I owe them a lot, much more than a song But a song is the best I have got A song is the best I have got So wherever you are, on which side of the light And though nobody knows what you hear or what you see I wish you a place full of peace and delight A place like deep Loch Maree The place it is guarded by the Ben of Slioch And there's the smell of the sea from the west There are hundreds of islands all over the loch And there's a window between future and past A window between future and past So wherever you are, on which side of the light ... This one goes out to those who are gone To the land of the dark and unknown Please wait for me there, and I hope you'll wait long And maybe you hear the lines of this song I hope you hear the lines of this song So wherever you are, on which side of the light ...

Well, I thought I saw her face on the market place Just for a moment, then she was gone Was it really true the woman I once knew What we started ended up so wrong I still remember that day though it’s a million years away That I jumped on the very last train I thought I saw her face on the market place Or was it an illusion in the rain in the rain We were so young, we felt so wise There was a flame but it turned to ice We built a house, we called it home Now the house is sold, goodbye so long Once there was laughter now there is silence And the fires are cold on Treasure Island Now we are strangers, so long goodbye, so long goodbye I went back to that place just the other day With a guardian angel by my side What I remember most of this house of ghosts Cold and empty rooms, time to say goodbye, time to say goodbye We were so young, we felt so wise ...

It’s the open horizon that’s calling for me And if you’re looking for me son you know where I’ll be Just like everyone I’m only a small part Of the open horizon, it’s anchored deep in my heart. Riding on a straight highway, no beginning, no end From somewhere to nowhere and all over again This is the way I want it to be, only some words to say, but so much to see It’s the open horizon … Standing on a mountain top, looking down on the road With the eyes of an eagle, no burden, no load This is the way I want it to be, only some words to say, but so much to see It’s the open horizon … Sitting on the shoreline, waiting for the waves All I need is some more time or a bottle to save it This is the way I want it to be, only some words to say, but so much to see It’s the open horizon that’s calling for me And if you’re looking for me son, you now where I’ll be Just like everyone I’m only a small part Of the open horizon, it’s anchored deep in my heart Yes the open horizon it’s so deep in my heart

about

The classical Shiregreen-album "Earthbound Songs" (2017) offers relaxed, but at times powerful Americana music with borrowings from country, folk and rock and was recorded with an eight-piece band. As so often, Shiregreen is about the power of nature and the longing for the "open horizon". Four of the 12 songs alone were created during a tour of Scotland in spring 2016. Outstanding is the magical "Earthbound Song" with mystical instrumentation and polyphonic harmony singing; the polished choral singing is one of the most striking features of the new Shiregreen sound. Also very moving is "A place like deep Loch Maree", based on Scottish folk traditions, a magical place that Adamaschek wishes to all those who have already left us:

"Wherever you are, on which side of the light
and though nobody knows what you hear or what you see
I wish you a place full of peace and delight
a place like deep Loch Maree."

Musically, Earthbound Songs marks a consistent further development of the independent Shiregreen sound, even if the artist's great role models such as Neil Young, Kris Kristofferson, Tom Russell or Mark Knopfler can be heard again and again. The full line-up from the last Shiregreen albums will be there, including Danish guitarist Tom Eriksen and Frank Schäfer on drums. The new background singer Marisa Linß, who also convinces with her touching solo piece "Garden of my dreams", and Morris Kleinert, who provides goosebump moments with his pedal steel far away from the usual country mannerisms, provide a breath of fresh air.
