We were robbed in San Sebastian It happened in the very light of day They broke into our car in the crowded street And the crowd looked the other way We’ve been robbed in San Sebastian The friendly officer, he didn't really care But all our money was gone and a lot of precious stuff I always knew that life's not fair But Jesus was standing on a hill Looking down at what we do He was smiling and I guess he’s smiling still 2.000 years and nothing’s new, nothing's new They stole our money in San Sebastian So I decided to take some money from this town And I made some music in the crowded streets And the crowd listened to my songs Yes I sang my songs in San Sebastian On the market square and on the boulevard Didn’t make much money but it was enough For some tapas in the Baztan Bar And Jesus was standing on a hill Looking down at what we do He was smiling and I guess he’s smiling still 2.000 years and nothing’s new, nothing's new We stayed for three days in San Sebastian Looking back a nice place by the sea We lost some money but we’ve learned a lot In this old life nothing is for free And Jesus is standing on his hill Only a statue above a Christian town He’s still up there and I guess he always will Takes more than that to bring him down, to bring him down

It was January 13, 1968 The clock on the wall it said 9.30 2.000 people had to wait In dining hall No. 2, cold and dirty Carl Perkins warmed them up with his Blue Suede Shoes But they all were waiting for their very special blues And then the man himself took the stage Hello, I'm Johnny Cash In a moment the room it was exploding Some guards said: Hey folks, we warn you But when Johnny sang “Dark as a dungeon” There was silence in Folsom Prison, California It was not the first prison concert, it was followed by some more But after Folsom Prison there was nothing like before Life is rough, so you gotta be tough That was Johnny Cash Some said he did it for the money And some said he did it just for fame But the prisoners said that was an honest man And me I felt the same I know he never shot a man in Reno but he really messed things up He did what he had to do, I loved to see him dressed in black And in the end the man, he left the stage upright Good night Johnny Cash

One of these thoughtful nights in a darkened living room Lightened by some candle light and the pale light of the moon Some weariness inside my mind, the day’s been hard and long Searching for a hopeful line, maybe good for a song But I was thinking ‘bout my yesterday, I had some trouble, had some pain I felt like I had lost my way, tried to find it again But then I heard my lady talk: Don’t worry, it’s all right And she took me for a walk through the cold winter's night And then we saw a shooting star falling from the sky Enlightening the hopes and hearts of you and I For a moment it was all so clear, our wishes had come true There’s a lotta love, my dear, in the lifes of me and you I was thinking ‘bout my yesterday, lots of trouble, lots of pain Felt like I had lost my way, tried to find it again Then I heard my lady talk: Don’t worry, it’s all right And she took me for a walk through the cold winter's night Then we saw a shooting star falling from the sky Enlightening the hopes and hearts of you and I For a moment it was all so clear, our wishes had come true There’s a lotta love, my dear, in the lifes of me and you We’ve seen a mighty shooting star …

I remember the time of our easy guitar fights Me and my friend Martin, we played many a night He was a Cat Stevens guy and me mostly Kristofferson And so the hours went by 'til the man from Japan came along It was in the seventies in a tiny room on the fifth floor We were at he same university and we were living door to door I was singing 'bout Billy Dee and he was singing 'bout “The Wind” Two guitars in perfect harmony 'til the man from Japan began to sing Kuniaki played no instrument, he couldn't sing at all But he loved all these Stevens songs and I guess he knew them all We laughed and cried and cried and laughed when Kuniaki sang along But when you sing with all your heart you can't do nothing wrong Just like children, we were like children Martin's living in the same old town working as a software engineer I'm not sure where Kuniaki's gone, heard he made a spiritual career He found his peace in Buddhahood but I hope he still sings some Stevens songs Cause the times felt really good when the man from Japan sang along

Yes, you're really not my friend, yes, you with the lying eyes I know your perfect smile it's only a disguise I gotta get out of here Can’t stand this place no more I gotta get out of here Don’t wanna see your face no more You’re the keeper of the truth when you speak and smile and sigh But behind these blinding words you’re nothing but a liar You’re a saviour on your own grace But you’re not they’re waiting for And I don’t like your smirking face No one really needs you anymore Heard about you on the news and I’ve seen you on TV But here inside this room there’s no room for you and me You gotta get out of here Don’t wanna see your face no more You gotta get out of here Get out, there’s an open door Who do you think you are, who do you think you are?

Passing By 03:29
There's a wind in the trees, come see the falling leaves Summer is slowly passing by There´s a sound in the clouds, the birds are heading south You can hear them passing by Passing by passing by, tell me why tell me why Good times are always passing by But don't cry please don't cry, little angel don't you cry There's still summer in your eyes Many friends come and go and some of them grew old Sad to see them passing by And your children are grown and leave you alone Feels like life is passing by Passing by passing by, tell me why tell me why Good times are always passing by But don't cry please don't cry, little angel don't you cry There's still summer in your eyes Now your hair's turning grey that's the price you must pay When summer's slowly passing by There's a train on the tracks and it won't be coming back You can feel it passing by Passing by passing by, tell me why tell me why Good times are always passing by But don't cry please don't cry, little angel don't you cry There's still summer in your eyes

Hey You 03:58
Hey you, with me for so long Some good times and some bad times we’ve been through And I know you listened to all my songs Now it’s time to write a song for you Hey you, going your own way Sometimes it might seem we’re far apart But it’s true there’s not a single day You’re not deep within my heart of hearts Hey you, found your friends along the road And some day you’ll have children close to you And I know when you’re getting old They‘ll give you the same love I got from you Hey you, you're the essence of my life The future and the past in one And for sure I’m with you on your way Proudly watching all that you have done Hey you, with me for so long Some good times and some bad times we’ve been through And I know you listened to all my songs And it was time to sing a song for you

Was soll's 02:59
Und die Sonne folgt weiter dem Wendekreis Und in China wächst ’ne Menge Reis, was soll’s, also was soll’s? Und die Sonne folgt weiter dem Wendekreis Und in China wächst ’ne Menge Reis, was soll’s, also was soll’s?

I'm not sure that you know him but I'm sure you know some of his songs He has written many beauties, true and fragile, pure and strong Telling jokes and endless stories, smoking big cigars all night long I really would like to meet him, but he is gone, so long gone It was a clear day in September in the year of 73 A plane crashed in Louisiana and on board was Jim Croce Came across him two years later when I listened to “You don't mess around with Jim” And a song about his newborn son and the time he'd like to spend with him Saving “time in a bottle” sounds so sad when you have to die so young But it really made me thankful that I could watch the growing-up of my own son They never found the reason why the plane, it touched the trees But six men lost there lives and one of them was Jim Croce His songs may never die but I miss the songs he never wrote His son Adrian is 45, he's making music down the road I'm not sure that you know him but I'm sure you know some of his songs I really would like to meet him but he is gone, so long gone

Stranded at the airport, waiting for a plane In the city of the angels where they say it never rains Some people seem confused, some seem to be alone Some are talking to themselves, some are talking to their phone We are stranded at the airport, are we really going home? Looking out of the window, the planes are touching down We hear the engines roaring, listen to the mighty sound And a couple from Japan is yelling at their son Two policemen with a dog are checking out if something’s wrong We are stranded at the airport, are we really going home? Only few more hours and we’ll be taking off Half year off is over, has it really been enough But my lady’s close beside me, we are trying to be strong I’m picking on my guitar and I’m trying to write a song We are stranded at the airport, are we really going home? Stranded at the airport, waiting for our plane In the city of the angels where they say it never rains

Steps 03:22
I was only one step from falling apart And it was a first step to open my heart It was another step to leave my shell I guess it’s a long way to find yourself It’s been twelve years now that I changed my life I took my children and I left my wife Out of the ruins and into the dark No one to lean on and nowhere to start I was only one step from falling apart And it was a first step to open my heart It was another step to leave my shell I guess it’s a long way to find yourself Been eleven years now that life changed me Blinded by sadness I’ve learned to see Owe it to my children, they kept me going They needed a father, they needed a home I was only one step from falling apart And it was a first step to open my heart It was another step to leave my shell I guess it’s a long way to find yourself It’s been ten years now that you changed my life Out of the darkness and into the light We’re conquering the world now step by step Three steps forward, only one step back. I was only one step from falling apart And it was a first step to lose my heart It was another step to leave my shell I guess it’s a long way to find yourself

Mirrors 03:18
Found a dusty old mirror boy and I took a look at myself Behind my face in the mirror boy, I saw a rusty old shelf It was filled with my memories, made of fortune, made of fame But is the man in the mirror there still the same Mirrors some shiny and new Mirrors some dusty but true On my shelf a lot of unpaid bills and a goblet for my tears And for the ghosts that haunt me still some candles against the fears There were books full of unmet dreams but the will to make them come true And there were a lot of photographs taken by you Mirrors as deep as the sea Mirrors some answers for free Go and find your own mirror boy, take a look what’s on your own shelf Might be a good idea on the way to yourself Mirrors nothing but the truth Mirrors the cold hard truth Found me a dusty old mirror boy and I took a look at myself Behind my face in the mirror boy I saw a rusty old shelf, saw a rusty old shelf

about

17 years on the "SHIREGREEN LANE"
Musical interim balance by Klaus Adamaschek & Shiregreen
It's now a good 17 years since Klaus Adamaschek launched his singer-songwriter project SHIREGREEN. And certainly without suspecting that this step to 350 songs, over 800 performances, etc. in the US and Scotland and would result in 14 albums. For the 15th album, the singer-songwriter has now rummaged through his archives for songs that were particularly important to him or the live audience, but which remained unreleased. The result of this "treasure hunt" is the anniversary album SHIREGREEN LANE with 15 tracks. A captivating journey through 17 years of Shiregreen.
The songs were recorded between 2008 and 2020 during studio sessions at the Rotenburg Toolhouse Studio. And so on SHIREGREEN LANE there is a re-listening with many of the more than 20 musicians who have worked on Shiregreen so far. And in terms of content, the album reflects pretty much all facets that characterize Klaus Adamaschek's songwriting. With "Steps" and "Stranded at the airport" there are two more tracks from the TRAILS cycle about the six-month tour through the western United States (2011), there are three more reference songs from the "References project" (2018) , this time for Johnny Cash, Cat Stevens and Jim Croce, and the time-critical songwriter soul doesn't miss out with pieces like "Out there in the world" or "The Twenties".
For Adamaschek, the lovingly and elaborately designed anniversary album is also a thank you to all those "who made the 17 intensive and wonderful years on SHIREGREEN LANE possible for me". The new CD is not only a must for all previous friends and fans, but also offers newcomers a perfect opportunity to immerse themselves in the musical world of Shiregreen. The large poster booklet, which offers lyrics and liner notes as well as an overview of all 15 Shiregreen albums, helps here. By the way, the album title and cover design allude to the street of the same name in the village of Shiregreen near Sheffield in England, which Adamaschek visited in 2016.
SHIREGREEN LANE by Klaus Adamaschek & Shiregreen will be released on July 28th, 2023 by DMG Germany.
