Some people down the road, seems they’re carrying a load In their eyes you’ll miss that flickering flame I don’t know what they’re searching for, are they searching anymore Without changes every day’s the same Maybe fear makes them hiding from their life But this is the year that I turn fifty‑five Defeat your fears and all these easy lies We are here to keep our dreams alive And in the mirror I wanna see unbroken eyes This is the year that I turn fifty-five This is the year that I turn fifty-five Insisting on your dream is harder than it seems But it’s so easy to let ‘em slip away Then you’re fading in the crowd, and you’re nameless, lost and loud Or some god might be giving you a day But I’m not here to wait for life after life This is the year that I turn fifty-five Defeat your fears and all these sacred lies We are here to keep our dreams alive And in the mirror I wanna see unbroken eyes This is the year that I turn fifty-five This is the year that I turn fifty-five We’ve been down the road so long, sometimes tired of moving on And sometimes it’s so hard to stand the rain Then I’m resting for a while, getting lost in your sweet smile, Til the road is calling us again But it’s not fear that makes us heading for our life Maybe it’s the year that I turn fifty-five Defeat your fears and all these foolish lies We are here to keep our dreams alive And in the mirror I don’t need no broken eyes In the year that I turn fifty-five This is the year that I turn fifty-five

There’s sunset on Sanfjellet mountain We’ve climbed the peak to watch it from above We’re somewhere in Scandinavia, high up in the north We follow gentle whispers of our love Twilight on the road to Oslo Temperatures are dropping more and more A snow storm in the summer in the middle of July Not exactly what we were looking for Some might say it’s for the memories That we are chasing down the road But life don’t really last forever, my friend And there’s no better way to go At least no better way I know There are rainbows in the Krka valley Green waterfalls close to the sea We came here by fortune, we stayed here until dark Where else you get some magic for free. Some might say it’s for the memories That we are chasing down the road But life don’t really last forever, my friend And there’s no better way to go At least no better way I know And there’s candle light in the old town of Strasbourg The spicy smell of Christmas in the air It was here that it began, ten years ago Two lonely souls at a Christmas fair And there are old songs from an old record player We’re resting in our own Railway Hotel And every single melody brings precious memories And a lot of stories we could tell Some might say it’s for the memories That we are chasing down the road But life don’t really last forever, my friend And there’s no better way to go At least no better way I know

I used to spend some time on these old graveyards Under old trees on some mossy grass Walking from stone to stone, talking to myself Reading all the letters from the past, from the past And the wind in the trees was whispering to me, life goes But my footprints in the grass turned to shadows from the past, who knows There’s a graveyard on the shoreline in the north I found a gray stone high above the bay His name was Joern, her name was Ruth And they died on the very same day, the Christmas day Two sparrows sitting high above the grave They didn’t care what happened down below They were singing their song, taking a bath And I watched them ‘til it was time to go, time to go And the wind in the trees was whispering to me, life goes But my footprints in the grass turned to shadows from the past, who knows Now and then I take you to some old graveyards Two lovers strolling on mossy grass We are walking from stone to stone, talking from heart to heart We’re reading all the letters from the past, from the past And the wind in the trees is whispering to me, love grows And our footprints in the grass turn to shadows from the past, who knows

Sometimes I wake up in the morning too weary to face the day Til someone without any warning is smiling my blues away Some days I’ve stumbled and I fell but you just helped me through These are the stories I could tell bout my days with you Sometimes sitting under my old tree and I’m drifting far away But then there’s an angel leading me back to the light of day No wonder I’m under your spell more than I ever knew These are the stories I could tell bout my ways with you Sometimes we’re riding through the dark and your heart is close to mine And I wish we could be riding on this car ‘til the end of time And when you’re there I don’t care for hell or the things I shouldn’t do These are the stories I could tell bout my days with you Sometimes I try to act so cool but it’s only a disguise The truth is I stutter like a fool when you look into my eyes Some days I’m locked in my old cell but you have found the key These are the stories I could tell ‘bout your love for me I know some people shake their head ‘bout the foolish things we do But I don’t wanna end up living dead, I’d rather be a fool Crazy steps they add up so well, they bring out something new These are the stories I could tell about my life with you Sometimes I hear the bells of freedom ring in a valley far away But close to me I hear an angel sing in my life every day And now and then I hear the echoes of these bells but I don’t need nothing new These are the stories I could tell about my love for you These are the stories I could tell about my life with you These are the stories I could tell about my love for you

I was sitting in our garden, it was a another rainy night I was trying to lock the world out and all these foolish fights. Maybe read a good book, maybe share a glass of wine To praise some precious moments in all these restless times. And just as I was calming down with the last glow of the sun First I heard a distant sound and then I saw it coming And then there comes a train Hundred tons of steel are roaring through the night Very close to me, no place left to hide And faces behind windows are they staring at me? And I don’t know where they came from and I don’t know where they’ll be. But as fast as it is coming so fast it is gone, And as the tail-lights disappear I fall into a song Roll on train, train roll on but leave a dream before you’re gone Roll on train, train roll on but leave a dream before you’re gone We’re living in our dreamland for ten years now or more But there’s an old railroad track close to our backdoor Some trains are heading east, some trains are heading west And sometimes they’re slowing down as they would like to take a rest But they never really stop here, they are always on the run And whenever we are sitting here, we can feel it coming And then there comes a train Thousands tons of steel roaring through the night Very close to me in the last day light Some wagons full of coal, some wagons full of cars Some are destined to stay here, some are destined to go far And sometimes it feels like thunder and time is standing still And the valley it is scared of the echoes from the hills But as fast as it is coming so fast it is gone But as the tail-lights disappear I fall into a song Roll on train, train roll on but leave a dream before you’re gone Roll on train, train roll on but leave a dream before you’re gone Roll on train, train roll on but leave a dream before you’re gone Roll on train

Six days on a lake We’ve been so long on the road And such a long long way to go Now it’s the time to watch some seagulls flyin And to take a walk along the shoreline Time to write a lakeside song for you Time to say how much I love you Six days on a lake So many places we have been So many beauties we have seen But now it’ the time to light a campfire Time to look into your eyes Time to write a lakeside song for you Time to say how much I love you Six days on a lake Canadian geese around us every day But come fall they have to fly away (so do we) But now it’s time to feel the summer sun Now it’s time to hold you in my arms It’s time to write a lakeside song for you Time to say how much I love you Six days on a lake

I don’t like these mobile phones All these tabs and apps they drive me mad But I love writing good old letters Or talking to my friends instead And I don’t need this flashing TV stuff It steals my time and it hurts my eyes But I love these old movie shows A sad story it still makes me cry. This present life leaves me so confused And I don’t know what they’re looking for In a world of win or lose Sometimes I feel like a dinosaur And I don’t need no XXL-Menu Don’t need no power drinks to energize My perfect dinner it takes some time And my ladies smile and some candle light And I don’t need no bright city lights And I don’t like these big black cars But I love to be waiting in the dark For some slow falling shooting stars This present life leaves me so confused And I don’t know what they’re running for In a world of win or lose Sometimes I feel like a dinosaur These old dinosaurs they used to rule the world Until the fatal day the earth turned cold If you wanna live in a modern world You gotta find your own heart of gold Oh my love I need you so Don’t wanna miss you anymore But there’s one thing I need to know What is it like to love a dinosaur Sometimes I feel like a dinosaur And it feels good to be a dinosaur

I’ve written so many love songs and each one’s for you Sometimes I think these are enough now, there ain’t nothing new But then I’m searching for words up in my room Diamonds and dirt, out comes the moon Some lines occure, maybe a tune And again it’s 'bout you Nothing’s easier than writing a love song when it’s for you I only remember some things we’ve done and some that we’ll do I imagine the smile of an adventurous girl Then for a while I’m out of this world I got my own style, I got my own words But it’s all about you. Sometimes it’s the way that you stand behind the window blowin' me a kiss with your hand when I have to go That’s the way love goes, the way our life goes The way your love shows Sometimes it’s the way you lean your head soft on my shoulder Or the way that you make me forget I am a little bit older That’s the way love goes, the way our life goes The way our love shows I guess I’ve written one more love song and it’s honest and true There never will be enough love songs written for you When I’m searching for words up in my room Diamonds and dirt, out comes the moon Some lines occure, maybe a tune And it’s all about you Searching for words up in my room Diamonds and dirt, out comes the moon Some lines occure, a beautiful tune It’s all about you

The last day of a summer, the evening’s getting cold I’m sitting on the veranda and I’m thinking ‘bout getting old My lady’s in the mountain, working on some stone She knows I think about her and I know I’m not alone. I watch the setting of the sun Hear the silence in the trees I feel a change is going to come But it’s not really changing me The last bird of a summer sings her lullaby It’s so hard to understand her but it’s so easy to try The wine it makes me mellow, that’s what I wanna be The sky turns red and yellow, wish you were here with me I watch the setting of the sun Hear the silence in the trees I feel a change is going to come But it’s not really changing me The last night of a summer, the wine is getting cold It’s better to go in there, there are stories to be told I watch the setting of the sun Hear the silence in the trees Feel a change is going to come But it’s not really changing me I watch the setting of the sun Hear the silence in the trees I feel a change is going to come But there’s a light that shines on me There’s a light that shines on me

Midnight sun 04:13
We had some trouble at our home, no time left for a song and we felt like we were running in a wheel There was some grass to be cut, there were some doors to be shut And some ghosts we should have killed A lot of bills to pay, a lot of reasons to stay So we were leaving like we were on the run But the river kept on flowing and the grass kept on growing As we were heading for the midnight sun Midnight sun, lighten the night Clear and calm, brilliant and bright Midnight sun, after the dark Keep shining on, lighten our hearts Yes, it’s the same old sun that’s hanging in the sky And the light seems much brighter up here And now the darkness is gone and there’s time to write a song And there are friends to share some laughter and some beer And here are birds to watch and there are dreams to catch And a lotta life you should live And there are stories to tell and mosquitos to kill And a lotta love to give Midnight sun, lighten the night Clear and calm, brilliant and bright Midnight sun, after the dark Keep shining on, lighten our hearts You’re not rising in the east, you’re not sinking in the west So the past is fading slowly but tomorrow’s coming fast You’re not rising in the east, you’re not sinking in the west So the past is fading slowly but tomorrow’s coming fast Midnight sun, lighten the night Clear and calm, brilliant and bright Midnight sun, after the dark Keep shining on, lighten our hearts

Sometimes I’m a wonderer Wondering what for Running down the road Open every door, open every door But sometimes I’m a writer Writing my own poem You and me are working On a lifetime song, on a lifetime song What shall we do with all these memories That we have made along the trail This mountain weather’s known for changing, my love So don’t we let them fade away And sometimes I’m a doubter Some doubts about our way Thinking ‘bout the troubles And the price to pay, and the price to pay But sometimes I’m a dreamer Whose dreams are coming true Mostly I am dreaming about you, dreaming about you What shall we do with all these memories That we have made along the trail This mountain weather’s known for changing, my love So don’t we let them fade away Might need them on a rainy day

Crossroads 03:10
And there comes a time You reach crossroads in your mind One road is open, the other one seems blocked That might be the time For your inner traffic sign To show which way to go and which way not Is it me, is it me Is it me who’s standing naked in the light But I’m free, yes, I’m free And finally we’re free to decide And there comes a day For a close watch on your way Some ways seem brighter and the other ones still dark That might be your day And for all that they may say You decide to follow the voices in your heart Is it me, is it me Is it me who’s standing naked in the light But I’m free, yes, I’m free And finally we’re free to decide Is it me, is it me Is it me who’s standing naked in the light But I’m free, yes, I’m free And I thank my stars for the freedom to decide I thank you my love for the freedom to decide

Last song 05:04
All of the stories they have been told But the last words they are still on our minds We’ve heard about glory, we’ve heard about dreams Heard about losing sometimes And all of the songs they have been played But the rhythm still beats deep in our hearts They brought us some memories, they brought us some tears A good song’s like a candle in the dark. Time to go home, my friend What we had was precious time You’re not alone, my friend As long as there’s a last song on your mind And all of our glasses now they are empty But still we can feel the taste on our tongues Some wine tasted bitter, some wine tasted sweet I guess it’s the same with an old song Time to go home, my friend But what we had was precious time You’re not alone, my friend As long as there’s a last song on your mind Time to go home, my friends But what we had was precious time No one’s alone, my friends As long as there’s a last song on your mind

about

Shiregreen writes extraordinary songs, authentic, multifaceted and moving. The 55-year-old songwriter from Rotenburg in North Hesse has not only won over audiences but also critics in recent years. "Shiregreen is in no way inferior to the best American songwriters," judges the FAZ, for example. And the largest German music portal "laut.de" attests "a superb demonstration of the art of songwriting". Now Shiregreen alias Klaus Adamaschek presents his new work together with his band. The stories I could tell has all the qualities of a classic storyteller album.

Many comparisons have been made to describe Shiregreen's catchy yet intense mix of folk, country and rock. Above all, North American songwriters such as Tom Russell, Gordon Lightfoot, Kris Kristofferson and Guy Clark were named, and Klaus Adamaschek met some of them personally in 2011 on a six-month US tour.

But the influence of his role models can only be heard at Shiregreen in deliberately placed quotations. Klaus Adamaschek has long since found his very own style. The songs are shaped by his warm and intense voice and by the authentic and deep stories. The focus of the new album is the personal inventory of a man in his mid-fifties who has already experienced a lot and who has found the love of his life. And who also has a lot planned.

The Shiregreen band with Dane Tom Eriksen on electric guitar, Paul Adamaschek on Bass and keyboards, Lukas Bergmann on violin and Frank Schäfer on drums present themselves on the new album with great presence and inspiration. Sascha Schmitt is new on the accordion, and it is precisely the interplay of violin and accordion that provides musical moments of particular intensity. Also noteworthy are the background vocals by Paul Adamaschek and the polyphonic choral singing.
